Songwriters want to know how to copyright songs (not copywrite), free song and music copyrighting and how to protect your songs and music.
This site will explore all these issues in detail.
Initially though, we recommend using a third-party song copyright service, such as SongRegistration.com -- at least until you need to file a lawsuit, at which time you can then register with the U.S. Copyright Office (Library of Congress) as well.
They will register your song copyright (their site offers good explanations of copyrighting songs and music on both their main page (items 1, 2 and 3) and their FAQ page) and do it faster and easier than the Copyright Office.
We will offer more perspective on the pros and cons of song and music copyright over the weeks to come - including what it means to copyright a song for free online, what registering music with the Copyright Office does, etc.
